PARIS RE is born.

Our determined efforts over the past year, as well as those of our investors, have culminated in the creation of a new company with a European culture aligning a well established business model with newfound financial flexibility.

At PARIS RE, we will pursue the same strategy that has been successfully implemented at AXA RE since 2003. The teams you know will stay in place and we will build upon the present business model while continuing to write the same classes of business in the same territories serviced by our former AXA RE offices. We have also added two new locations, one in Switzerland and the other in Bermuda, to reinforce our geographic scope.

As a mid-sized reinsurer, we focus on providing our clients with flexible solutions that respond to their specific needs, while at the same time meeting their requirements for financial security through the inevitable cycles.

Our key mission at PARIS RE is to assure that we have the teams in place to deliver such solutions in a prompt, effective manner, as well as to attain a sustained record of profitability that will assure the long-term financial integrity of the company.

To support these goals, we have built a structure focused on four basic operating principles:

  • a quantitative and analytical approach to pricing and to risk management,
  • a matrix underwriting organization blending technical expertise in multiple classes of business with product knowledge at the local level,
  • a geographically diversified and balanced book of business,
  • a high level of responsiveness in quotation and claims management.

This continuity of purpose, strategy and teams, combined with the financial backing of a strong consortium of well established international investors with a wealth of experience in the insurance and reinsurance sector, is a winning formula for our clients, our employees and our new shareholders. We look forward to continuing to provide the creative reinsurance solutions and financial security that our clients have come to expect.

Hans-Peter Gerhardt became Chief Executive Officer of PARIS RE Holdings Limited in 2006. He had first joined AXA RE in the same position in 2003. His career in reinsurance began in 1981 with Hannover Re, upon his return from the United States where he had worked in management administration for the Astronautics Corporation of America. From 1988 to 2003, he assumed both underwriting and management functions for the Cologne Re Group which merged into General Cologne Re where he finished as a member of the group Executive Committee and as CEO of various underwriting divisions.
