Marine, Aviation & Space

PARIS RE’s Marine, Aviation & Space, or MAS, line of business provides reinsurance coverage for businesses with risk exposure in the marine, aviation and space industry sectors.

Marine

The company writes hull and cargo, war, specie, liability, including protection and indemnity coverage as well as energy in the sector relating to offshore oil exploration and operations. This business is mainly written on a non-proportional basis and includes coverage written for risks in the North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, as well as off the Indonesia and Mexico coastlines. Proportional treaties are also written for a select number of specialized clients, or as an integral part of a broader client relationship.

Aviation

PARIS RE provides aviation reinsurance for airline and general aviation portfolios, including war aviation. We provide coverage for property damage, third party liability and products liability risks. Approximately 50% of our aviation book is made up of major international commercial airline accounts covered on an excess of loss basis. We also write general aviation business on a proportional basis for non-airline businesses. The bulk of the portfolio originates in Europe and the remainder represents specialist operations in the United States.

Space

We are a leading provider of space coverage, writing reinsurance through one of our wholly owned subsidiaries based in Washington D.C. We provide coverage for businesses exposed to risks in the satellite industry relating to assembly launches and operations in orbit for commercial space programs.

Our Offer

PARIS RE is involved worldwide in the Marine and Energy Offshore classes, writing covers on both a facultative and treaty basis. Our basic underwriting guidelines are geared to offer a product able to protect our clients against severe losses, focusing on pure marine risks, such as hull, cargo, marine liability, P&I, offshore, energy and war risks.

Treaty business originating from our Canadian clients is served through our office in Montreal, Latin American and Caribbean clients being served through PARIS RE America in Miami, while Far Eastern business is served through our office in Singapore. Business originating elsewhere is handled by our team based in Paris. Facultative underwriting is centralized in Paris.

Our activity in Aviation business focuses on two main areas: the Airline account providing coverage for insurers with respect to their airline writings, and the General Aviation business, excluding war risks.
