Presentation of PARIS RE Property operations
PARIS RE provides reinsurance coverage for physical damage caused by fire and related perils such as explosion, lightning, storm, flood, earthquake and terrorism, as well as coverage for business interruption and loss of rent as a result of those perils. Other sub-lines of our property reinsurance business include hail and agriculture, property related coverage for motor risks and weather related products, as well as sports, leisure and entertainment coverage.
PARIS RE’s property business accounts for 38% of our gross written premiums and our property book of business is spread over many different countries and regions, with a focus on developed countries. The company’s property catastrophe portfolio is predominantly made of non-proportional treaties.
A part of our property portfolio is written on a per risk basis, using both proportional and non-proportional treaties. This portfolio primarily comprises international businesses exposed to the risk of a major industrial accident and the resulting business interruption loss.
PARIS RE's Property reinsurance team offers per risk and per event reinsurance covers that may be used independently.
Per Event Reinsurance
This represents the bulk of our Property portfolio and covers both natural and man-made events. PARIS RE writes a diversified mix of proportional and non-proportional business in North America, Europe and Asia. As a leader in this field, PARIS RE can offer large capacities to its clients if the mutually agreed terms and conditions fit our business plan objectives.
Per Risk Reinsurance
This form of coverage is typically applied to industrial and commercial risks in keeping with PARIS RE's objective of diversifying its activities and services rendered to its clients by developing lines of business other than catastrophe reinsurance. Rigorous risk analysis principles and various modeling techniques are systematically applied, with special consideration given to expected program performance, projected loss and pricing guidelines.
Although the reinsurance of meteorological events is not a recent development, covers to secure earnings against temperature or precipitation variations and the use of weather indices are innovations first introduced in winter 1997. Clients most able to benefit from this type of coverage mainly include those in the energy, agri-business, construction and leisure sectors.
PARIS RE's offer is twofold:
- Indexed products providing more efficient coverage for insurers against risks such as water damage due to extremely cold weather or the prevalence of high winds
- Financial income protection against variations in climatic conditions for other sectors
For sport, leisure and entertainment, our covers focus notably in specialities such as cancellation, non-appearance, film package insurance and prize indemnity.
We write several types of covers for small or mid-sized events such as concerts, or for larger-scale events such as the Olympic Games or the FIFA World Cup.
